Nyungwe Forest National Park
Nyungwe Forest National Park is located in the South Western part of Rwanda with tropical green rainforest with a high dense canopy. The Park comprises of numerous mahoganies, ebonies, giant tree ferns, orchids and other epiphytes that hang onto different branches. The Park is prominently known for offering Chimpanzee Tracking Tours requiring you to transfer from Kigali to the forest for 4-5 hours via the Nyanza King’s Palace and the National Museum. The Park receives annual rainfall of 2000mm which fills the River Nile that flows both in the East and West of Congo.

Chimpanzee Tracking
Nyungwe Forest National Park is prominently known to offer amazing Chimpanzee Tracking Adventures to all kinds of travellers. Chimpanzee Tracking in the park requires you to transfer to the Park headquarters for briefing on the code of conduct around the Chimpanzees then later in groups of 8 with a park ranger, enter the forest to track the Chimpanzees for 2-4 hours depending on their location. On meeting them, only an hour is allowed in their presence taking various photos to keep for memories.
Bird Watching
Birding watching is a very exceptional safari activity to carry out in the Park as the Park inhabits various species of birds i.e 700 are recorded and these include shoebill stork, rare acacia and papyrus species like the Red-faced Barbet, Bennett’s Woodpecker, Papyrus Gonolek, White-headed, Black and familiar Chats, Carruther’s and Tabora Cisticolas, White-winged and Broad-tailed, Warblers and Miombo Wren-Warblers, Handsome Francolin, Rwenzori Turaco, Mountain Sooty Boubou, Rwenzori Batis, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Archer’s Robin-chat, Rwenzori Hill Babbler, Grauer’s Rush, Neumann’s and Grauer’s Warbles, Masked Mountain Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit and Strange Weaver, a full range of Rwenzori double-collared, purple-throated, blue-headed and regal Sunbirds.
Canopy Walks
Nyungwe Forest National Park offers amazing Canopy Walking Tours to all travellers in Rwanda for Safari as these give you an exciting adventure above the gigantic Mahogany trees. The Canopy walkway is located 60 meters above and requires you to traverse from one side to another at the top of the gigantic mahogany trees an experience so amazing and very exceptional.
Hiking and Nature Walks
Nyungwe Forest National Park is very good for travellers on hiking and nature walk adventure as they transfer along various trails. There are 130 km trails that can be followed by hikers with the Congo Nile divide being the longest, Imbaraga as the most challenging and Igishigishigi being the shortes.
