Day 1: Arrival and flight to Kisoro Airfield
You reach the Kigali International Airport where you board a domestic flight from the Kigali International Airport to Kisoro Airfield. On reaching the Airfield, you are picked up by a driver guide who transfers you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. When you reach here, check-in lodge for Dinner and Overnight. Mount Gahinga Lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking at Mgahinga National Park then Flight to Ruhengeri
Trekking gorillas in Mgahinga National Park is one of the profound experience far beyond every tourist’s expectations, and more so with visitors stepping on the African soil for the first time. Gorilla Trekking Day
On the gorilla trekking day, you are expected to take your breakfast as early as possible at your hotel/lodge, carry some packed lunch with at least one litre of bottled drinking water, meet your driver to transfer you to Mgahinga UWA park office. At UWA office, get registered, submit the gorilla trekking permit to the UWA park officials, join other tourists to enjoy the morning welcome entertainment ceremony by the local cultural drama group.
This is organized by UWA to entertain the visitors with the local traditional songs, dance and drama. Then participate in the Participants briefing session and get to know the things you can do and not during the gorilla trek. Ask the park ranger to include you in the appropriate gorilla trek group, and to give you a walking stick, and find you a local porter- if you need someone to help you to carry your bag and to support you to walk easily through the jungle. Gorilla Trekking Day at Volcanoes National Park
All visitors interested in gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes Mountains National Park are expected to take their early morning breakfast at their hotel, get some packed lunch plus at least one litre of bottled drinking water, before reporting to the Volcanoes Mountains NP to trek gorillas.
While at park office, you are expected to register your details with the park, submit your gorilla trekking permit to the park officials then after you are offered a hot cup of cappucino, hot black coffee, green tea then after you get briefed on conduct around the Mountain gorillas in their natural forest vegetation habitat. After, you are distributed into groups of 8 with a lead park ranger guide to lead you to the starting point where you leave from to enter the forest to trek the Gorillas.
Request the park rangers to include you in a gorilla trekking group, appropriate to your personal needs and abilities. Remember to ask for a walking stick, a local porter- if you need one to help you to carry your bag and support you to walk through the jungle, easily.

Tracking gorillas is a simple and safe activity: every person with some level of fitness can do it. It starts with a walk into the jungle, using existing forest trails, through steep hills, dense forest, streams and water bogged wetland areas, under the guidance of the park ranger, in a companion of the two armed men, invited to safeguard the group against any likely attacks from wild animals living in the jungle. On average trekking takes 1-6 hours, inclusive of the one hour granted to interact with the gorillas. After trekking the Gorillas, you return back to your lodge for relaxation, Dinner and overnight.
